A lack of notification and sudden cuts to public transport services left many commuters returning to work stranded this morning waiting for services to arrive.
This morning, passengers waiting for bus and trams services learnt that there had been a sudden change to services for the entire month of January with little notification.
This yet again highlights just how unprepared the Marshall Liberal Government was for the reopening of borders and letting COVID into South Australia.
There have been no social media posts from Adelaide Metro or the Transport Minister, there were no text message alerts about changes and the only signage at bus and tram stops is about reduced services between 29 December and 31 December.
When reduced services were announced for 29 December to 31 December there was no mention that there would be further reductions for the entire month of January.
The only notice about these changes were snuck out on New Year’s Eve through the Adelaide Metro webpage.
The Member for Badcoe and her Labor colleagues have been inundated with calls from frustrated commuters not aware of the sudden changes.
At time when South Australians are told to be social distancing the Marshall Liberal Government are cutting more than 150 bus and tram services per week, claiming it is because of “lower patronage”.
Never before have we seen services cut for the entire month of January.
The Marshall Liberal Government must explain why they have decided to cut services for all of January and if this has anything to do with a lack of staff due to the record levels of COVID in our community.
Quotes attributable to Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson
Working South Australians rostered on throughout January need public transport to get to their jobs.
They also want to be able to socially distance if possible, especially when we are seeing record levels of cases in SA.
The last time services were cut for an extend period there were overcrowded buses and some passengers were forced to wait up to an hour in the extreme heat because of the cuts.
The Marshall Liberal Government must explain why there has been a lack of notification about these cuts and why they have decided to cut more than 150 services per week at a time South Australians are being asked to social distance.
