MEDIA RELEASE: Labor to provide $1.6 million to revitalise Clarence Park Station

Labor to provide $1.6 million to revitalise Clarence Park Station

An elected Malinauskas Labor Government will provide $1.6 million for vital works to upgrade Clarence Park Railway Station. Locals have been crying out for upgrades to the dilapidated station with some residents saying the ageing infrastructure and poor lighting makes them feel unsafe.

The station is bordered on one side by the City to Brighton bike path, and many locals feel a bike storage facility at the station is well overdue. Labor Candidate for Elder Nadia Clancy and Labor Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson listened to strong feedback from residents and worked with community members to find ways the station can be improved.

Labor will use the funds to improve this important community asset with:

  • Upgrades to lighting

  • Building a bike storage facility

  • Addition of a water fountain

  • Pedestrian Safety Gates

  • Other revitalisation work (including upgrades to CCTV)

Comments from Shadow Treasurer Stephen Mullighan:

I’m excited to announce this funding for Clarence Park Station, which is utilised by many people both inside and outside the local community. This upgrade will ensure local residents, and visitors alike, will feel safe and free to enjoy this community space.

Comments from Labor Candidate for Elder Nadia Clancy:

Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure when travelling to work or school, to medical appointments and to go shopping. Time and time again, while I’m talking to locals in the community, this issue keeps coming up. The community wants to feel proud of and safe at their local station.

Comments from Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson:

I’ve long campaigned for safety upgrades at this station and have written to the Minister repeatedly. His response has been that it’s not a ‘priority’. Our Labor team does prioritise the safety of local commuters – and that’s why we’re listening and delivering – even if the Liberals won’t.
