MEDIA RELEASE: Liberals break records and promises in child protection

The latest available state government statistics reveal at least 4129 children are in state care – the highest number on record – breaking yet another election promise.

Minister Rachel Sanderson promised to reduce the number of children in care – yet she’s failed to achieve that in any month since she took office.

Worryingly, 414 children are now in residential care and another 108 are in emergency care – the least desirable forms of care for vulnerable young people.

The latest figures confirm for the 20th month in a row that Child Protection Minister Rachel Sanderson has broken her key election promises.

The November 2019 Department of Child Protection statistics are the latest that are publicly available – a three month lag time. This breaks another key Marshall Liberal Government promise to be a transparent and accountable government.

Rachel Sanderson made a lot of big promises – but for the 20th month in a row she’s failed to deliver.

Rachel Sanderson should be held to account for failing to stick to her promises; the promise to reduce the number of children in care = especially emergency care.

Before the election we were promised a single Minister with full control over child protection. Instead responsibility for early intervention has been stripped from the Minister’s control and she’s presided over a worsening toll.

Ms Sanderson is showing month after month that she’s out of her depth and can’t be trusted to deliver on her own promises.
