Labor’s calling on Premier Steven Marshall to bring to Adelaide the world’s most highly acclaimed musical - Hamilton: An American Musical.
It’s just been announced that the hip hop-based Broadway smash will have its Australian premiere in Sydney in March 2021, but so far there are no plans for the show to travel to South Australia.
The Grammy, Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning stage show is one of the highest grossing Broadway musicals of all time, reaping US$526 million just in America.
Hamilton centres on the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and is written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. With a largely non-white cast, its themes about identity and who writes our history are highly relevant to Australian audiences too.
At a time when the state’s unemployment rate is climbing, generating jobs in our arts, entertainment and hospitality sectors is a must.
The NSW Government is expecting Hamilton will inject $84 million into its economy.
