The Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson is calling on banking giant ANZ to reverse its cruel decision to close its Kurralta Park branch.
Local customers have received a letter telling them the branch will shut down at 2pm on Wednesday 16 January.
The letter suggests customers use online banking or visit branches as far away as Glenelg, Torrensville and Castle Plaza.
In May, ANZ reported a profit of $3.3 billion – up 14% on the previous year.
Quotes attributable to Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson:
Local residents – including people who are elderly and disabled – have contacted me about the imminent branch closure. They’re distressed and dismayed.
Many of them chose to bank with ANZ many years ago because the bank boasted a local branch that they could easily access, staffed by local people.
Many of the ANZ customers who have approached me do not have home internet and online banking is not an affordable or practical option for them.
Worryingly, the letter to customers also states this decision is part of ‘reshaping’ ANZ’s services across Adelaide’s south western suburbs and the Hills. What other bank branches or ATMs are slated for closure?
This is yet another low blow from a big bank more concerned about profits than providing a vital service to our local community.
I call on the ANZ bank to put our community ahead of profits and reverse its decision to close our local Kurralta Park branch.
